Unusualy heavy fog engulfed Yercaud town for the second day today making the little hill station alike Kodaikanal or Ooty.
The mist forms around 3.30 pm and continues to hover through the night unlike in previous winter seasons when the atmosphere would be cleared after a short time.
Yercaud is known for moderate cold, salubrious weather as the height is only 1500 meters. But in the last two years the winters have been a colder than usual. Locals who usually avoid woolen wear were found with pullovers and coats. But the temperature was a tolerable 17 degrees Celsius at 4.00 pm.
A mid drizzle continued and due to the haze vehicles had to switch on lights in the evening itself to streer clearly. Braving the mist, outstation tourists seemed to enjoy the climate by remaining outdoors.
Hoteliers said the second season crowd was not very encouraging but a the room occupancy shoots suddenly and drops off.
Weather watchers said that Yercaud had good rain in the last depression but now it has been less. In the ast 24 hours Yercaud registered ony 5.3 mm rain as against a total of 76.8 mm in the entire Salem District.
